Florida Thesis Project Book selected for exhibition and publication
Falon Mihalic's 2012 Graduate thesis project book from the Rhode Island School of Design has been selected as an exemplary design thesis book. The book will be included in the Fall 2018 exhibition at Sol Koffler Gallery August through September 2018 in Providence, Rhode Island. The book, selected from over 300 RISD projects nominated by the Graduate school Department Heads, is reviewed in the forthcoming Book of Thesis Books. The editors have this to say about the thesis project, Hydrourbanism in Flux:
"The book’s range of visual information is unique and compelling, including digitally rendered maps; bird’s- eye landscape views; sketches; clay and foam models; “perspective study collages” representing concepts such as stillness, spectacle, and wilderness; abstract ink studies; and atmospheric photographs of various environmental effects—slowly moving water, wide horizons, distinct plant forms, and so on. The high- quality printing and descriptive captions bring the images fully to life. A conclusion and final note on “future research” detail Mihalic’s plans for a summer GS Grant–funded project and co- here her commitment to hydrourbanism as a lifelong pursuit."
Supported by the Graduate Commons and the Center for Arts & Language, HIGHLIGHTS is on view through October 7, 2018, at the Sol Koffler Gallery, 169 Weybosset Street (CIT), from 12-8 PM daily.
